TIRTSCHKE MURDER TRIAL.
'Received This Day at 9.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 22
The Tirtschke murder trial was continued. Olive May -Maddox gave evidence that she was in the wine saloon on the afternoon of the tragedy and saw a girl lilqe- Tirtschke sitting there with a glass before her. She said to Ross—“ She is a kid to be drinking.” Ross said—“Oh, if she wants it, she can have it.”
Six days later Ross said to her — “You don’t want to tell the police anything if you know anything. The papers say she was a goody goody, but that is only for the sake of th public. She was a cheeky little girl.” Ivy Matthews, who had l>een employed by Ross gave evidence that she saw the child sitting in the private saloon on the afternoon of the murder. Witness then detailed the story that Ross met her next day and said the child came up to him and asked him for a drink. He took her in and gave her a. drink of lemonade without evil intent.
Witness continued—Ross further said : “You know in the company of children I feel I cannot control myself. It was all over in a moment.”

In connection with the tour mentioned yesterday, Mr Trethowam further explains the object is to establish a* federation of farmer’s and co-operative companies in Australia., New Zealand, Boutr Africa, Catnada, and United States. Already a- federation of the prinipcal co-operative companies in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa exist, totalling forty-four, which it is proposed to link, up with American and Canadian Co-operative Organisations. Resides wheat, it is intended to include wool, butter, tallow, meat, fruit and other primary products in the equalise prices and prevent the present dealings. The aim is to regulate and heavy°fluctuat-i'ons; to secure reasonable profits without cornering anything or penalising anybody.
BIPLANE SCRATCHED. MELBOURNE, Feb. 22. Following Saturday’s breakdown, Biplane has been scratched for all his Victoria Racing Club’s engagements.
