Reardon, Secretary of the freezing workers, says certain delegates at the meat pool conference at Wellington suggest that Parliament should interfere with the freezing workers award. Mr Reardon says they arc labouring under delusion as the terms of the award clutnoi he altered for two years, but it is unfortunate for the workers in the industry that this is not so. Mr Reardon points out that Justice Frazer lias repeatedly stated that variations can be made by the Arbitration Court, not only of the bottus, but also of the basic rate.
A CABINET DECISION. WELLINGTON, Jan 12. Cabinet has decided that no application will be accepted from discharged soldiers for assistance, under the Repatriation Act, after June 30th next. .

The heavy rains last evening inland of Patea caused the Whenuakura river to rise rapidly this morning and as a result several spans of the northern end of the railway bridge were earrio' away. Railway traffic on the section will be disorganised for several davs, passengers only being booked to the southern end ad far as Waverley, and northern end to Patea. No goods will be carried beyond those points. Pnssengers and mails will tranship. The bridge was an old wooden structure and the Department proposed renewing it with ferro concrete this year.
