AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. PRICE OF STEEL BAR-S. LONDON, Dec. 11. Siemeri’s Steel Association at Swansea has reduced the. price of steel bars to £7 7s 6d, equivalent to one fourth of the wartime price.. STRIKE DANGER. (Received This Day at 1.5 p.m.) CAPETOWN, Jan 11. The Executive of the Industrial Federation resolved on calling on all labour organisations throughout South Africa, to take tiie necessary constitutional steps, preparatory to a strike on the lfith, hut to with-hold action until the Executive -are advised. Government have submitted the Federation’s proposals for a conference, previously cabled, to the Chamber of Mines. It is considered there is no likelihood of anything tending to end tlib strike, short of Government intervention. BANK REOPENS. (Received This Day at 1.5 p.m.) ROME, Jan 12. The Banca Disconta has re-opened for exchange business, reception of deposits and purchase and sale of Government bonds.
