HOKITIKA HARROUR BOARD

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20. The Hoard met at I p.m. Present : Messrs G. A. Wood (Chairman), C. J. Nightingale, J. Lloyd and T. W. Bruce. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE . From Secretary Education Department, Wellington, stating he was engaged in writing a series of articles for the School Journal, of artificial liarhours ol New Zealand.—Received and attended to.

From Lands and Survey Department-, Hokitika, granting permission to occupy reserve, formerly enclosing lJarbour .Master's residence.- - Received.

From Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, notifying increase of audit lees payable.— Received.

From A. 11. Stuart, Postmaster, Hokitika, stating no telephones as asked for were available.—Received.

From 11. L. Tapley and Co., Dunedin, giving particulars ol a dredger lor sale. -Received. From Valuation Department, Wellington. covering provisional valuation summaries and advices of alterations affecting the rolls for the Board.—Received.

From F. W. Archer, Capleston, making inquiries for temporary site lor coal depot on wharf.--Site granted for three months, at I'3. pending more permanent site being erected. From Secretary Marine Department, asking for information for Now Zealand nautical almanac.—Received and attended to.

From Westland County Council, asking for two repiesentatives for meeting of local bodies on July 29th with regard to the district being included in the Grcv harbour district.—Received ; Messrs Bruce and the Chairman being appointed. Several repairs to the signal station were authorised.

The acting Harbourmaster reported that the channel is at present running in ;i north-westerly direction, carrying 13 feet of water with 7 feet on the guage, with an average depth of 13 feet for the last 30 days.—Received. The Treasurer reported payments since last meeting .£26 2s 7d, receipts Csl Hr 6(1, cash in hand £]37s 9d. Tliis concluded the business and the meeting adjourned.
