UNITED BERVIOE TELEGRAMS. AUSTRALIA V. YORKSHIRE. (Received This Day at 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 20 The Australians began the return match with Yorkshire at Sheffield today. The weather was dull, but fine and hot. There was a large attendance. The wicket was hard and fast.

Mayne, Ryder, Hendry and Carter stood out.

The Yorkshire eleven is composed of— Barton, Wilson, Rhodes, Holmes, Sutelilfe, Oldroyd, Macauley, Waddington, R. Kilner, Robinson and Allen. Armstrong won the toss an,d sent in Collins and Bardsley to the bonding of Robinson and AVaddington. Collins was missed in the first over and was howled in the next, lie not- attempting to play the hall. Bardsley was also missed at I by Holmes at first slip, a distinct chance. The fielding then improved and though the bowling was high class quick changes were made. .Macartney was getting busy when Kilner replaced Robinson. In his first over the Sydney crack fell a victim to his weakness for dragging the ball into his wicket —31 for 2. .Macartney’s comparative failure made Bardsley very cautious and he only scored 10 out of Jo in 50 minutes. Macaulay came on at 49 and in his first over Andrews was caught at second slip—so for 3. With Taylor as partner the left-hander opened out a little and got several good fours behind the wicket. Taylor only scored 2in his first 20 minutes, yet was hitting hard, lint all his strokes were smartly fielded. He was missed at 8 by Allen behind the wicket. The crowd, which numbered 8000, were delightfully enthusiastic. Wilson, who was making his first appearance since his return irom Australia, was cheered for stopping a terrific drive by Taylor to mid on. After lunch he relieved Macaulay and Bardsley was nearly run out third ball. The hundred came up in -02 minutes, hut a very useful partnership was broken at 128 by Taylor returning one to AVaddington. The Australians then met with disaster. four wickets falling for only 11 runs. The final score was 251. Yorkshire one for 29. AUSTRALIA —Ist Innings. Bardsley, b AVilson 71 Collins, b Waddington 0
