HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

.MONDAY, JANUARY 10th

The Committee met at <MO p.m. Present—Messrs W. H. Shannon (Chairman), Preston, Stevenson, Richards, Aitken, Lloyd, Feddersen, Bruce and Rev. Fiirchas. Tim minutes were confirmed and outward qjrrespomtence approved. IN W A RT) CORRESPONDENCE. From Runanga Excursion Committee asking for at rangements to be made for annual excursion. Received; arrangements to he made. From Education Board, notifying acceptance of resignation of Mr J. B runt on, boa dma st er.—Received. From Same, notifying inability io continue services of Miss Aitken. —Received. From High School Board, regretting inability to pirovide a vote towards the Secretary’s salary.—-Received; Mr Bruce moved that the request be referred back to the Board for further consideration. Seconded by Mr Preston and carried. The Secretary’s salary was fixed at £l2 per annum. APPOINTMENTS.

The meeting resolved into Committee to deal with applications for headmaster and assistant master. On resuming it was freported that it had been resolved to recommend Hie Board to appoint Mr. Thomas A. Irvine,' of Fendalton as headmaster and of Mr Albert Secbcfk as assistant master at Hokitika. SCHOOL EXCURSION. In connection with the annual school excursion the Chairman reported ho bad arranged with the Railway Department folr the school excursion to he held at Lake Mahinapua on Wednesday January 10th. 'Flic action of the chairman was approved. It was resolved to accept the offer of the Catholic School Committee to take part in 'he management and to hold an informal joint meeting the next evening to arrange details and a sports programme. The collectors of one portion of the town reported the sum of £l7 10s had been collected towards the school exeulrsion, which was considered very satisfactory. Current accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
