Reginald Jonathan Stanley Slieen, a young man, a labourer, of Leefield, was arrested and charged in court this morning with breaking and entering the homestead of Francis Noel Dillon at Leefield, and stealing valuable jewellery and other articles, of a total value of £2oo. Accused was remanded till Fridav.

A GIRL BURNT

INVERCARGILL, Jan. 4

.Mary Loole, six years of ftge, was severely burnt on Monday afternoon. She was left in charge of three younger children, while her parents were out visiting and by some means her clothing caught fire, and when a neighbour arrived it was almost completely burnt off. She was removed to the hospital in a critical condition.

CORONER’S VERDICT

INVERCARGILL, Jan. 4

At the inquest on Joseph Patrick Crengle, who was killed while attempting to hoard a moving train at Bluff, the evidence showed he caught hold of the carriage rail, but missed his foothold and went down * between the carriages. A verdict of accidental death, with no blame attachable to anyone was returned.

AMERICAN CONSUL. AUCKLAND. Jan. 4

The Consul generalship of United States will shortly be removed from Auckland to Wellington. This change says Mr Unslow (who will he succeeded by'F. Wilbur now Consul at Geneva) has been in contemplation for some time. It is usual for the Consul General to be stationed in the capital city, and Vice-Consul at other important centres. Mr M. .1. McCaftory of Wellington, will be placed in charge at Auckland as Vice-Consul and the commercial work of the Consulate will be carried on as before
