MURPHY BEATS BROWN
INVERCARGILL, Jan. 3. A professional figlit for the welter weight championship of New Zealand between Murphy and Urown was fought in the Municipal Theatre which was packed. Brown was more aggressive in a rather tame bout which went the full distance. Murphy retaining the Championship bn points. The decision got a very mixed reception. Amateur bouts:—McCleary (Christchurch) beat Whittaker (Invercargill) in a heavy-weight bout after a fast and interesting contest. McCleary was much superior in in-figliting. Bantam:
Row (Dunedin) drew with Adams (Invercargill) . Feather: Sycamore, Invercargill beat McDonald (Dunedin). Light; Mitchell, (Dunedin) heat McLean (Invercargill). Welter: McNaughton (Dunedin) beat Brown (Invercargill). In a special light-weight contest (Cox (Invercargill) beat Brodie (Invercargill).
