The Tramways Union lias accepted the City Council’s terms as to hours and wages that were embodied in the latest offer as submitted by a committee appointed by the Council. Conductors in their first and second years are to receive ls Bid per hour; in tlieir third, fourth and fifth years, ls 9d ; in tlieir sixth and subsequent years, ls lOd. Motormen in their first and /second years are to get Is 9d per hour; in tlieir third, fourth and fifth years, Is lOd ; in tlieir sixth and subsequent years ls lid.

These advances represent an extra id per hour. An important concession that will, now be enjoyed by the men is double pay instead of time and a half for Sunday work. It is also provided that a six-day week is to be recognised. When a man is called for duty on Sunday be is to get the day off during the week.

a lady's costume at twelve guineas, tile costume having been bought from the Kaiapoi Woollen Coy., at a cost to them, net of £7 Is Gd. Hie Court mentioned that this demand for an unreasonable price was not general in the mantle department. THE JUDGMENT. AUCKLAND, December 21. Giving judgment in the John Court Ltd. case, Mr Poynton S.M., said at the price asked, the profit would be 78 per cent, or without discount allowed by the Kaiapoi Coy. 71 per cent. In liis opinion an offence was committed when the price was asked. A great deal of evidence was given as to the profits on defendants business, particularly on the mantle Department, which showed, that on the branch for two years they had been, .very small. In consideration of this, the penalty would not be severe, but as profiteering was such a grave evil a substantial fine must be imposed. Defendant was ■ fined £IOO and ordered to pay costs. Security for appeal was fixed at .£2O j plus the fine and costs.
