COMMERCIAL NEWS.

Alt AHU RA, FAT STOCK SALE.

Tho special Christmas Sale at the above yards was held yesterday there being a fair attendance of buyers and an extra yarding of stock. The total of sheep and lambs yarded numbered 526 and was the largest entry a.t the Yards for several years past, and would have constituted a record had the ‘Wnkaiti” arrived in time with a further shipment of 120 fat ewes and lambs from Okarito, she being detained by bad weather.

I The quality of the fat sheep penned was indeed very good, but the same cannot be said of the lambs that were

; yarded. With on o exception they were a poor lot, all showing evidence of the ..very wet Spring that has been experienced along the Coast, top price being obtained for a pen of Mr O’Neill’s which sold at 29s 3d. Two pens of Mr I Adamson’s fat sheep made 34s 6d. Four pens of fat sheep were passed, not ■ reaching the vendor’s reserve. | Sixty-one head of’prime cattle were yarded and if anything were a little too big for butchers’ requirements at this time of the year, light finished cattle . selling much better. On the whole

there was a distinct falling in the prices for mutton and beef which at this tim e of the year is generally expected, the declipe being in sympathy with the fall which has recently taken place in Canterbury. The following sales were recorded : Messrs G. IV. Moss and Co. sold for Mr H. N. Adamson, 70 fat sheep at 34s 6d, 70 ditto at 32s 6d. Messrs W. Jeffries and Co. sold for Mr H. Karnibach, 40 lambs at 20s, 14 fat sheep at 27s 6d. For Mr W. Thompson, 27 lambs at 225, 12 fat owes at 325. For Mr T. O’Neill, 16 lambs at 29s 3d. For Mr R. Cropp, 16 lambs and 12 ewes all told at 20s 6d. On account of Mr D. J. Diedriehs, privately, 72 extra prime fat wethers at 40s. Cattle.—On account of Mr T. Condon
