The Board met at 8 p.m. Present— Messrs R. Wild (Chairman), G. H. Blank, (.1. Davidson, J. Ritchie, H. Monk. Apologies for absence were made for Messrs Morel and Evans. The minutes were confirmed and outwit vc\ correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From -Minister of Health, Wellington, promising att9.nti.pu (o request for lease of section at Kumara.—Received. From Same, authorising jmreha.se of Ifupidry (or Westland t(ospital.—Received. FlOlll Dr Valintine, promising expedition in work of arranging erection of laundry.—Received. From Same, stating the sum of £IOOO would be available in lieu of the recommendation of tile Hospitals Conference, for an increase of subsidy, which had not yet been brought into, force. —Received.
From Hospitals Department, Wellington, enclosing copy of amending acts.—Received. From Auditor General, notifying that receipts from ljoard were subject to stamp duty.—Received. From Mrs Batson, Kumara, applying for leave of absence.—Received. The Chairman stated lie had granted the application for three weeks.—Action approved. From Wnilio Commitee, enclosing report (already published).—Received. It was resolved to defer further action re purchase of section for hospital, at Wnilio pending enquiries' being made. From Kumara residents, enclosing resolution of public meeting (read at last meeting by Mr S. P. Eyanq).—Received.
From Dr Meade, Ross, asking for leave of absence for one week.—Received; request granted. From Health Department, Wellington, enclosing report of Dr Baker re a patient qt Hokitika. —Received; attention to he given. From Sister Baker, District Nurse, South Westland, reporting arrival at Waiho.—Received.
From Mabel Atkinson, asking for information qs to district nurse.—Received ; replied to. From Dr Valintine, enquiring as to steps taken to provide residence for medical officer at Kumara.—Received; replied to. From Otira Committee, enclosing •voluntary contributions, £29; complaining of delay by Public Works Department in placing new hospital in proper order and asking that attention he speedily given ; later recommending leave be granted Dr Bathgate; suggesting an arrangement be made for medical treatment of Bealey residents. — Received. It was resolved that, the Chairman be requested to visit Otira, with the Resident Engineer on Thursday next, to meet residents, with a view to having the complaints attended to. From Dr Bathgate, resigning position as medical officer at Otira.—Received. From Dr Telford, Christchurch, asking for valuation on disinfecting apparatus in hand.—Received; to he supplied. From T. E. Y. Seddon M.P., stating section at Kumara required by Board, was at present in occupation of Mines Department.—Received. From Government Architect, Wellington, enclosing draft plan for laundry at hospital and recommending its erection in brick, instead ol wood and iron walls and roof and concrete floor as suggested by the Board. —Received. Air Davidson moved Hint as it is imperative that the buildiny: he completed by end of February, that the work he carried out in wood and iron and urging that the plans he prepared, and tenders invited at oiiee.—Seconded by Mr Blank and carried. From Airs J. Freitas, resigning position as laundress.—Received and accepted with .regret. The djouse Committee (per Mr Davidson, Chairman) reported on a number of matters requiring attention; acknowledging receipt of parcel of clothing from -Mrs Wliiley and parcel of books from Dr Teichelmann.—Received and adopted. It was resolved to arrange for the usual Christmas fare at the hospitals. Mr Blank moved that a committee consisting .of town members he appointed to report on the question of q maternity home in Hokitika.—Seconded liv Mr Ritchie and carried ; to report at next meeting.
The Finance Committee recommending accounts amounting to £fl34 2s lid hg passed fpr payment and that the salary of the pool? fit Westland Hospital be fisqd at £133; that £IOO of furniture lie secured for Kumara. —Received and adopted. The Secretary reported receipts £1623 7s 6d, payments £1963 18s 3d; credit balance £54 14s. —Received. The Chairman moved that accounts for maintenance' amounting to £1416 13s fid be written off as unrecoverable. —Seconded by Mr Davidson and carried. It was resolved that accounts of those people who had been notified to. pay their accounts bofore 14th December, and who had taken no notice, be placed in the solicitor’s hands for immediate attention. 'The Chairman reported ho, accompanied by Messrs Searle, Ritchie, Chinn and Evans visited Kumara after last meetjng and foupd matters satisfactory. That they had met thp Kumara committee of residents, who after a long discussion, expressed their approval of the Board’s attitude ; that the medical officer at Kumara be supplied with drugs at cost price and be paid a reasonable price for any prescriptions given to Board’s and patients.—Received and adopted. The Board rose at 10.10 p.m.
