Judge Stringer stated that owing to tlie unfortunate misuiidertanding, the bonuses granted to workers for the periods ended Soptembre Ist, 1919, and March,' 1920, were based on calculations made by the Acting-Government Statistician on the basis of the monthly index figures, of as intended by tlie Court, theSmoving average index figures. The further bonus was arrived at qpt the same erroneous basis. 'Die correct bonus for last period was Bs, but since the total bonus over the whole period should have lipen los and 10s per week was. already being paid, the proper amount for last period was its. The Co lift regretted there had not l>een some system of co-operation between the '.Arbitration Court with fixed wages and tlie Board of Trade witli fixed prices, and had the gravest doubt as to whether the Court was justified in granting any further increase; but taking into consideration' the fact that from Ist. January to 31st. Oetolver the workers were receiving 2s per week in excess of the correct am ount, fair and reasonable, the overpayment would be adjusted by making tlie bonus for the current six months 3s, which was, in the Court’s opinion, as great as was warranted. , Judgment was given by the Presi- ’ dent alone, Mr Scott holding that no bonus should be granted and Mr Mci Cullough os at least.
