■ ARRANGEMENTS FOR PAY. LONDON, Sept. 28. The Admiralty made the following announcement yesterday with regard to the personnel of the New Zealand Fleet. The officers and men of the Chatham and of tiie Philomel, who will take passage in the Chatham, will begin to draw New Zealand rates of pay, payable by the New Zealand Government, as from the date of the Chatham being commissioned, and are to be fully paid up to September 30th, inclusive, by the accountant officers of their ships. Similarly, the R.N. pay accounts of any officers or ratings selected in future for service in the New Zealand naval forces are to be closed on the date immediately preceding that of the commencement of their New Zealand appointment or engagement, and balances paid in full. Arrangements have been made about the allotment of officers and men transferred, aiid forms of engagement signed by aii ratings engaging to serve in the New Zalaiul naval forces are to be forwarded to the Naval Adviser, Defence Department, Wellington, with the originals of forms of agreement signed by volunteers for temporary loan from the active list of the Royal Navy. Before Viscount Jellicoe left for the Dominion he made the statement that many of the members of the crew who Isailed with him in H.M.S. New Zealand uad found the attractions of the Dominion so great that they had applied to be taken on H.M.S. Chatham. He had, he said, forwarded the applications to the right department. Captain A. G. Hotham assures me that so far as' possible these men have been included in the naval ratings of tlie Chatham, i ro that on the arrival of that ship ini New Zealand waters there will probably be the renewal of many former friend ships.
