A clause has been added to th© Appropriations Bill in the House of Representatives, on the motion of the Prime Minister, which authorises the Government to reduce the duty on tea. By a special order tea imported in bulk from British. Dominions may he restored to the free list. The present duty on tea was imposed after the outbreak of war, as a'method of raising additional revenue. The prospect of the duty being fitted from tea has caused some anxiety among the importers, who are holding large stocks, on which duty has been paid. The Prime Minister stated to-day that duty certainly would not be charged before the end of the current financial year, on March 31st. next. He would not k|now the exact financial position until the financial year had ended, and in the meantime lie did not intend to sacrifice any revenue. The clause had been inserted in the Bill in order that the Government might have the power after March 31, if the financial conditions justified a change to lift the duty from tea and so relieve the consuming public from one of the burdens added during the war. FOUND DEAD. WHAKATANE, Nov. 15. Michael Peter Dammond, aged 48, was found dead at Ki.whi cattle station on Saturday evening. His mate left, him reading and later found'him face down outside with no sign of a struggle. It is surmised that lie first came from Waitakuna, Otago and later from Taihape.
