PRICE OF BUTTER

PROCLAMATION ISSUED. WELLINGTON, Oct. 18. An Order-in-CounCil, issued to-day confirms the recommendations of tlie Butter Prices Committee, and fixes the scale of prices for the sale of butter as follows ’.—Maximum in boxes of bulk -la lHd per lb, ex factory door; maximum price, retail 2s 3d? cash over counter, 2s 5d booked. These maximum prices do not apply to butter manufactured prior to August Ist, 1920. The new prices will operate on Oct. 19th. AUCKLAND, Oct. 18. At a meeting of Newmarket Workshop employees, a resolution was unanimously carried to request the Executive Council to urge the Government to increase wages owing to a further increase in the cost of living, and also to urge Government to watch the activities of the Master Grocers’ Association to deal with Mr Bennett’s threat, with respect to the price of butter. The Wellington Trades and Labour Council decided to recommend all affiliated unions to apply at next sitting of the Arbitration Court, Wellington for a -special bonus of 2s 6d a week, t< meet the rise in the price of butter. This will be in -addition to the ordinary bonus, which was due on October Ist. based on the Government Statistician’ calculation for the six monthly perio ri.*™ March 31st to September 30th.
