[•‘reoter’s” telegram.] JAPAN IN THE PACIFIC. LONDON, Oct. 19. According to the “Daily Express’ Tokio correspondent, Japan has decided to fortify the' Bowin Islands, especially against aircraft. She has sent experts to study the question. WAR ON ARABS. LONDON, Oct. 18. A British communique states that three thousand Arabs made a stubborn resistance to the British forces on the 13th in a strongly-entrenched position in some palm gardens on the right bank of the Euphrates river. Tho Arabs lost heavily. xTh e British column were then able to proceed to the relief of Samawalx the garrison of which is safe. v / LUNCHEON FOR PRINCE. LONDON, Oct. 18. Fifty guests will he present at a luncheon to. the . Prince of Wales tomorrow. They include the Duke of York, Admiral Halsey, and other members of the Prince’s tour staff, Lord Milner, Mr Amery, Mr Kell, Justice and Mistress Powers, the Earl arid Countess of Stradbroke ,the Lord Mayor and Mayoress of London, Mr J. Rand Mrs Collins, the High Commissioners and Agents-General, and their wives and daughters. The proceedings will be private, the only toast being that of the King. OVERSEA SHIPPING. LONDON, Oct. 18. A War Office communique states all military families in Mesopotamia, except hospital cases, are now below' Kut-el-Amara or have departed by sea. ITALY’S COAL. (Received this day. at 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 19. Rome messages state the Italian Government in anticipation of the British strike, secured a reserve stock of 1,200,000 tons of coal for railways and shipping, also a supply for - industries. Imports of American and German coal are increasing. KING OF GREECE. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) ATHENS, Oct. 19 King Alexander’s condition is very grave.
