General Zeligowski has proclaimed himself supreme commander of Central Lithuania, wth power to appoint an executive. ■ Owing to General Zeligowski’s action, the Government of Lithuania have resigned. POLISH FIGHTING. (Received This Day at 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, Get. 18. Official telegrams from Kovno report severe fighting between Kovno and Vilna. The Poles attacked with large forces, using armoured trains. There were heavy losses on both sides. The message adds that mobilisation is proceeding in Vilna, drafts being sent to the Polish zone at Lida. Presumably the Poles mentioned are Zelignowski’s troops who are thus conducting an offensive against Lithuania. SOVIET POWER. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) PARIS, Oct. 19. v The first batch of , French hostages from Moscow prisons have arrived here. They state the Bolsheviks are fast' declining. Kerensky interviewed at Prague, said the Soviet regime was encountering such difficulties that its fall was imminent.
