Oil Thursday Sir Arnold Gridloy, Jv.ll.E. signed the contract for the electrification of the Olira tunnel, and the work is to he commenced, at an early date.

The contract price is £313,000 and the successful tender is that of %» English Electric Company, Ltd. of Jyingsborough, London. Sir Arnold Gridley is the managing director of the linn, and lie came out to New Zealand in connexion with the contract.

Mr MeFarlane, an employee of tin English Electric Company', who accompanied Sir Arnold Gridley to the Dominion, will be in charge of the work.
