rAUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] LORD MAYOR OF CORK SENTENCED. LONDON, Aug. 20. Mr MeSweeney, the Lord Mayor of Cork, who has been transported to Eng-. land, on the ground of his possessing secret police plans, has been sentenced by a courtmartial to two years’ gaol. Mr MeSweeney continues his hunger strike. He is in Brixton Prison. He declares that he will persist in it, regardless of what may be the consequences.

The Sinn Feiners state that his death would have serious consequenoes in Ireland. Mr MeSweeney is one of the most popular republican leaders in tlje South of Ireland.
