THE POLISH WAR* : “ LONDON, Aug. 21 Advices from Warsaw continue to be most entliusiastic regarding,the Polish prospects. It is stated that the Bolshe•viks speed in retreating equals 'their pace in recently advancing. They show considerable panic. Their gun teams are demoralised, and have abandoned guns in woods. One correspondent says: “Altogether things are very rosy. Nobody now talks of the occupation of Warsaw.” At_the same time other reports are cautious as regards the northern sector, and admit that while the Poles may succeed in cutting off -the far-advanced Bolsheviks, the Red right wing continues to advance and is not effected by the events in other portions of the front. The Warsaw correspondent of the “Daily Express” says:—The Poles have gained an important victory. The

northern Bolsheviks armies .have suffered a veritable debacle, one which will have an incalculable effect on the future of the campaign. The Bolsheviks, east of the Warsaw-Lava railway, are now split into two parts. One bodj- of them numbering 7000, will almost certainly be captured. The others may escape, but it is doubtful. The Poles have lately advanced through Brest-Litovsk. They have now cut off the Bolsheviks who attacked Warsaw. The city is now waiting to hear every moment the news of the capture of thousands of the enemy.

WEYGAND’S STRATEGY. LONDON, Aug. 22. The latest advices state that the Poles have advanced to Lukow. If they should succeed in moving on BrestLitovsk, -it is considered the Reds retreat will become a rout. The newspapers compare the Polish victory with the battle of the Marne. “Le Matin” says: “The Red Army acted the same as the Germans did in 1914. General Weygand has repeated the strategy of General Joffre and General Gallicm.

AN ALLIANCE. LONDON, Angust 21. Official advices state that an alliance has been concluded between the States of Czecho-Slavakia and Jugoslavia which the Allies set up. Advices declare the Polisli counter attack towards the East Prussian frontier, also counter attacks northwards from Lublin, are continuing with great success. The Polish line northward represents an advance of about 40 miles while they advanced east of Warsaw to a depth of 50 miles, on 125 miles of front.

ON THE POLISH FRONTIER. LONDON Aug. 20. According to a Berlin message, two thousand Poles occupied many villages in the neighbourhood of Ivattowitz, PARIS, Aug. 21. Further demonstrations occurred at Ivattowitz. Armoured cars fired on a menacing crowd, killing seven. The question is being discussed whether it is advisable to urge Poland to discontinue the advance at the Russian border.,
