CHINESE ATTACKS. /PICKING, July 18
Chihlites severely defeated the All- - Six thousand of the latter hastily retreated towards Peking, and are looting Manyuan ,a few miles from th capital. All gates of the capital have been closed. It is reported the Cliihlites have recaptured Yangthnn.
TROOPS FOR PEKIN
(Received this day at 1-30 p.m.) 5 PEKIN, July 19. General Cliuiikkwejtis troops have let: Tugchow for Pekin. It is understood they are coming as neutrals to preserve peace. Refugees are still arriving, all seeking food. Perfect order prevails in the city, though the excite ment is undimini'shed. Fighting continues oji the Western front. According to Tientsin advices the commander with one hundred thousand men, who hitherto adopted 3, policy’ of armed neutrality and was regarded as the deciding factor in the situation, has now been . heavily reinforced by Chihlites’ troop, ft Trains from Mukdan hourly passing Tientsin to the front. In addition to a British squadron under Admiral Duff, two Japanese torpedoers have arrived at Tientsin. Railway communication with Pekin has been re-opened.
