BERLIN, JmV 16. In connection with "The hauling down of the French flag, a leading police official called on the French Embassy and expressed regret. Subsequently a. company of Roichswelir marched past the

Embassy where the leading French ofhcors and members of the Embassy stood on the balcony and the flag was rehoisted. The Reichswehr presente' 1 arms and marched off singing “Deutschland Über Alles”, Tho crowd vigoronly cheered the ‘Reichswehr who only participated in the ceremony after influential persuasion, hut they refused to don parade uniforms.

AN INSULTING APOLOGY. LONDON, July 18

The ceremonial apology for hauling down the Tricolour at the French Embassy was carried out in an insuiting manner Aggravating the original . offence. A slovenly dressed company of Reiehsthwer marched to t|ie Embassy, saluted, and hoisted the flag amid hoots from a large croud. Then the company departed smiling and singing “Deutschland Über Alles,” amid the crowd’s cheers.

The French Chnrge D’Affaires protested to the German Government against the Reichswehr Commander per. mitting the singing of Deutschland TJber Alles "after saluting the re-hdisted French flag. The protest points out that the incident evoked disagreeable demonstrations from the crowd.
