A meeting of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute pass. e d the following resolution“ That this branch regrets that the Auckland branch, in opposition to the Institute’s long Established policy of an undivided service enjoying, under a uniform Dominion system, equal rights and opportunities, but {ip section'll privileges, should proceed to form a separate Association, basing the step on the unworthy pjca that teachers in one district have peculiar needs not in common with teachers in other districts. The Institute has always represented a national spirit in education as opposed to mere parochialism, and its effort to remove the district barriers to promotion by means of a grading scheme has formed a consistent part in its programme. Tlie forming of a separate AsI socia’tion is a virtual assertion of the typpogite policy, and is particularly unfor\uuatp at tlie present stage, when the Insttute’s increased influence holds such good promise in the immediate future for schools and teachers alike.’
