TOTALISATOR PERMITS
THE MINISTER'S ATTITUDE
(By Telegraph.—Special to Cuartlian.)
WELLINGTON, July 13,
Replying ,to delegates of the Strutford Racing Club, who asked for an extra totaiisator permit, the Minister for Internal Affairs (Mr Anderson) said he felt that any change made must be in the direction of reallocation. The holding of permits by districts with comparatively small population in the West Coast and elsewhere, had been mentioned. Racing inert should not forgot that in the early days these districts bad been the inbst populous in the colony, and had kept the sport going. It would not Ire fair to wipe out the small Clubs, in the mining districts, for example, even if their totaiisator receipts were smaller than the returns of newer districts. He would not agree to takfe away the permits from the old Clubs. When permits were withdrawn the loss should fall on the districts where there were numerous Clubs in restricted areas.
