IX THE COMMONS. LONDON, July 6
Mr dynes, on behalf of the Labour party emphasised labour’s increasing interest in foreign affairs in ih* Budget discussion in the Commons. The Labour motion for abolition of the tea duty was defeated by 242 to 45. Replying to questions Hon. Bouar Law stated the suggested to establish an Allied Court in Holland to try the ex-Kaiser was impracticable. He announced that British naval and' military support of Greeks against the Turks would be confined to what was necessary to ensure the freedom of the Straits and fulfilment of the peajee terms. Reinforcements sent to Dardanelles 3 * were intended solely for that purpose.
Replying to Messrs Wedge wood, Brenn and Kiley, who complained of ruindenturo of Chinese labourers in Samoa before the issue of the mandate, Hon. Amery emphasised that the matter was entirely within- the control of the New Zealand Government. The Imperial Government was fnever at any time responsible for the administration of Samoa. He did not doubt that any representations would receive the fullest- consideration of the New Zealand Government. Mr Amery declined to submit the question, forbidding Chinese indentured labour in mandated areas to the Council of the League of Nations.
