WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY

The report of the Imperial Wireless Telegraphy Committee has been published. It recommends a scheme for the connection of various parts of the Empire b.V wireless links not exceeding two thousand miles. The Committee believes by this procedure that official, commercial and press traffic would be carried redialbly, expeditiously and economically and all essential strategic needs -be met. Tim Committee estimates the initial capital cost of the scheme at £1,243,000 with annual charges including interest amortisation of £425 000. Tire Committee anticipates that the traffic would produce a revenue of £325,000 leaving an annual loss of £IOO,OOO. It recommends the execution of the scheme be entrusted to the engineering department of the Post Office but long distance wireless traffic with foreign countries might be lett to commercial companies. He declares the small temporary loss is negligible in comparison with the Imperial benefits The Conference recommenda a service of communication between Leafield and Cairo by the Toalson Arch, which will shortly be operated by the Post Office, to be the first link in tlie cliam. Communication to be continued by a valve station near Nairobi, by the alteration of the ex-Gorman stalion , Windliuk to a valve station to complete I the connection with South Africa.
