ALLAN WILKIE COY
11. F. Maltby’s “The Rotters,” will be presented bv the Allan Wilkie Comedy Company, on Monday next, at .lie Princess Theatre, Hokitika. Tin's production is stated to bo the most laughable play witnessed for many years past. It was first introduced in London four years ago, and made an instantaneous “hit.” There is said to he an enduring cleverness about the plot and the humour is refreshingly original and spontaneus. The principal char actor is Councillor Clugston, a selfmade man who fins risen to the middleclass of provincial North of England. “Respectability” is the watchword of his life, and lie is eager to impress everyone with the worthiness of his family, particularly as he is desirous of becoming mayor of his town. From “a series of untoward developments are evolved most laughable situations. The first shock he experiences is the ■<- pulsion of his younger daughter from the collego for flirting with a choir boy. Then his only son is arrested for drunkenness and assaulting the police. Next, Clugston surprises his elder daughter in the arms of his chauffeur. Clugston is further astonished by the discovery that his wife was a widow when he married her, and she had kept this fact a secret from him for thirty, years. But a most mirth-pro-voking denouncement is provided by an unexpected revelation concerning tbe worthy Clugston himself. The box plan is now open at Misses Mclntosh’s Sweet Shop. Matrons are advised to secure their seats without delay as a brisk demand has set in for reserved seats.
