(Received this dav at 12.25 p.m) SYDNEY, June 24. The Government Savings Bank has increased the rate of interest on deposits to four per cent, up to the limit of £SOO. CONFERENCE FAILS. SYDNEY, June 24. A conference of coal owners and miners discussed the men’s claim tor payment of £1 per day for lower paid men and shorter working hours. The owners submitted counter proposals, but no agreement was reached. At tlic suggestion of Mr Hughes (Federal Prime Minister) ,wlio presided, the conference adjourned with the object of the two parties trying to reach a modus vivendi.
