ALBANIAN RISING
ißy Electric Telegraph—Couyrighc.j LONDON, June 12. There is an armed rising of Albanians on the Eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea. Fighting is proceeding. A DESPERATE FIGHT. ITALIANS HARD PRESSED. , ROME, June 14. A fight for Valona raged furiously for four hours ,beginning at mid-Aiight There were 15,000 Albanians. The insurgents placed mines on all the roads, and they destroyed bridges and planted , captured Italian guns on the heights overlooking the town. These shelled the Italian naval base during the main attack,, the Italian Warships replying. The defenders’ plight was almost hopeless at 4 o’clock, owing to a treach. erous # Mussulman attack in their rear; but Alpine forces made a desperate ■charge, slaying two hundred and capturing several several thousand Albanians also a number of guns. Then they rounded up all the Mussulman, whom they have deported to Brindisi. i The Italian losses are reported to he I severe. . The first casualty list contains 37 officers missing. | There are disquietening rumours con. j. corning the fate of , the Scutari Italian I garrison. . , j RISING BECOMES GENERAL. , ROME, June 13. Latest news shows'that the anti-Ita’i-ian rising in Albania, is now general. I The Italian, garrisons have been forced to quit several of the Adriatic sea ports. The evacuation of Durazza ana beutari is imminent.
ITALIANS CLEARING OUT. ROME, June 14. : The Italian garrisons at Santi Quarta (8 miles north-east of Corfu), at Duleicno, on the Montenegrin coast, 12 miles south of Antivari, and at Antivari/liave all been forced to embark. One small garrison, 75 miles southeast of Durazzo, though surrounded for many days, is still holding out. It is receiving rations from aeroplanes. Durazzo continues pluckily to resist, hut everything is ready for an Italian evacuation. It appears that a national uprising is now in progress throughout Albania. Strikes of seamen and railwaymen. are occurring at many Italian ports and towns, the object of these being to prevent the dispatch of troops and material against the Albanians., I TROUBLE AT TRIESTE. ROME, June'l3. j Quiet has been restored at Trieste where there has been trouble. It is due to the Italian railway strike. The Government are using military engneers and marines as volunteers to run / the trains. A train load of munitions was thus conveyed. The strike is known as “The White Strike.” The railwaymen simply then fold arms, and do not leave the stations. The passengers ar ecompelled to,, disembark or depart ten miles outside the city.
