POLLARDS PICTURES AND MUSICAL MAIDS MONDAY
On Monday next at the Princbss Theatre, Pollard’s will present a powerful programme, consisting of “The Three Musical Maids,” headed by the charming comedienne and Society entertainer Batliie Stuart, the famous African story, “The Claw,” starring Clara Kimball Young and the latest in scenic studies, The "Posts’ “When Nature. Smiles.” “The Musical Maids” com-* 1 prise Amy Woodward, soprano, Miriam ICutner, an artist who plays and sings at the piano, and Bathie Stuart, who has made a speciality of Maori love songs and folk lore. A iate Christchurch criticism states: She fairly car-; ried her audience away with enthusiasm. For her opening. number she sang, “Hush here comes the Dream Man,” 4; sweet nursery song; followed by “0.0. La La. We. We.” a delightfud French ditty; and a Coster skit entitled, “In 15 Parts” ; then came a series of charming Maori numbers that included “Arolianui and Pokerekari.” The first part., of the entertainment will be devoted to the famous Post-Studies, and “The, Claw,” a thrilling story of. life on the great African veldt, adapted from the famous novel by Cynthia Stoekley of tlje* same name. The, beautiful star has. many opportunities in “The .Claw” of proving her versatility as the story calls, for much action and varied accomplishments in the shape of riding, shooting,, and dancing. She excels in ail, and her radiant beauty gives to the picture a charm, that not even the intensity of its dramatic situations dnd novelty of its plot can dim. Wild animals are featured in at least one scene, and the star is called on to protect herself against a lion, when left stranded, on the veldt at night by the drunken mule driver—a novel form of Beauty and : tho Beast.
