LOVE SECRET IN A POEM.
KEY TO LOVERS’ DIIEAAIS. NEW YORK, Alarch 20,
The love secret of a wealthy Chicago business man, a former officer in the American Army, and a beautiful divorcee, whose bodies were found side by side in tlie latter’s flat, was revealed by the silent evidence of the woman’s diary and the man’s cheque counterfoils.
What authorities first believed to be a suicide pact is now thought to be a murder and suicide. 1
Air Clifford AlelviHe Bleyer lived with his wife and two children in a fashionable flat, and was missing from home for several days. Yesterday bis wife communicated with 'her husband’s business associate. An examination of the cheque counterfoils in the missing man s desk disclosed that regular monthly payments had been made for the rent' of another flat. . There was uo reply to telephone calls at,the latter address. When detectives visited the place they found the bodies of Air Bleyer and Mrs Ruth Randall, each with a bullet hole in the temple. Scrawled in a page-of a diary m Airs Randall’s handwriting was a poem, which is believed to be the key to the mystery: ■ Sleep, my beloved, sleep; Be patient, we shall keep Our secret closely hid Beneath the coffin lid. Other evidence led to-the conclusion that Air Bleyer tired of his dual life, threatened to leave his paramour, wit i tho result that she shot him as he slept, and then sent a bullet through her own brain. ■
