WESTLAND WAR MEMORIAL

COLLECTING CAMPAIGN. On Thursday of next week the collect ing campaign for the Westland Great War Memorial will begin, and will extend over ten days—winding up on April 25th on which date the A nzac landing will be commemorated. Lists are placed all over Westland County and interior Boroughs, including the schools, and ; t is hoped within the ten days to raise a sum of mt less than £1,500. The amount will be fpplicd to the erection of a cenotaph on a suitable site in Cass Square, where the fallen soldiers and nurses from this distinct will he memorialised for all time. The contributions from the people are to be called a free-will offering in gratitude for the services rendered and out of appreciation for the great victory won. The donations should he given readily and. liberally, for the purpose is one which appeals to all. It is proposed to lay the foundation stone at Hokitika, on Sunday April 25th. at a special ceremony. So far the Committee compiling the list of the fallen is not receiving much outside help, and as it is desired to have a. complete list, friends would oblige by supplying the surname and initials of all who °fell from Westland, including Westland-born men who may have enlisted elsewhere.
