fAUSTRALIAN & N.Z CABLE ASSOCIATION^ OPPRESSION IN POLAND. WARSAW, Jan. 22. There are extremely strained relations between the Polish population and German authorities in the reoccupied territories. It is alleged that the Germans are exercising a religious oppression and also indulging in systematic inl dustrial and economic destruction of P territory carrying off raw materials and agricultural products. The Diet urged an appeal to the Paris Supreme Council.
JAP TROOPS FOR SIBERIA. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) TOKIO, Jan. 26. Premier Harra to-day declared the despatch of reinforcements for Japanese troops to Siberia was unavoidable, in order to assist 11 to Czechs to guard the railways. Harra declared there was no reason td withdraw 'Japanese troops from Siberia, because United States did so. He pointed out the position of Japan and China in the Far East was different from the position of .United States and Britain.
TRAIN FIGHT AT IRKUTSK. PARIS, Jan. 26. While Allied Mission trains were lying at Irkutsk station, negotiating for a passage through to the coast, three of General Seminoff’s trains arrived. A regular battle followed. The Revolutionaries sent empty engines roaring down the line and two of Seminoff’s trains were wrecked, and some of the Allied missioners were wounded by flying bullets and shrapnel. A battalion of Japanese rescued the Mission. Czech officers have lost control of the men, who are showing sympathy with the (Reds in East Siberia, and are everywhere assisting the Bolshevisks. The rolling stock of trains is falling to pieces.
BOLSHEVIK ANSWER. (Received this day at 8.40 a.m.) PARIS, Jan. 27. The “Debat’s” states the Bolshevik Government has notified the Allies of tlicir refusal to authorise a resumption of trade relations except after the conclusion of an armistice. They will sink all Allied ships in Russian ports unless an armistice is concluded.
