The annual Press Association meeting and Conferences opened in 'Wellington last Wednesday, and have been carried on every day since. The annual meeting of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of New Zealand was commenced last evening in the Chamber of Commerce.
The Chairman addressed the delegates and expressed satisfaction that, enormous Avar sacrifices would culminate in the near future in an honourable peace and the utter rout of Prussianism and its barbarous methods. He wont on to express (he hope that the Peace Conference would secure for the world a lasting settlement, based upon right and justice. Meantime he pointed to the turmoil in the industrial world land otherwise. Thin was unsettling the world. The Avar Avould undoubtedly leave them Avitb ucav conditions These would have to be courageously met. .Mi - Selig referred to the deaths of Peter Dimviddie, .Herbert Keys, (avlio for some years was Secretary of the Association,) .11 ml Mi>; McCullough (wife of the proprietor of the Thames Star), and Tims Temperley (avlio ivas director of the N.S. Wales Country Press Association). The Chairman referred to the fact that during Id's visit to England, Mr Femvick was the recipient of a letter from Lord Siamfordhain, the King's private Secretary,- expressing to him and the members of the Association His Majesty’s thanks for a resolution of loyalty passed at the provius annual meeting. In the sentiments of thanks His Majesty had hearty concurred. The Chairman also referred to the future paper supplies question. ttie. The Chairman referred to the forthcoming world’s press congress to he held in Sydney in November next. The question of representation front the Association was deferred until fuller information is lo hand. Mr Sclig. was re-elected President. Mr Gilmotir in a neat, speech, made eulogistice references to the service rendered by Air Sclig to the Association during the eleven years lie had occupied the office, of President.
