The Overseas Orchestra will meet for practice at the Town Hall to-morrow night at 7 o’clock. Tho Chief Postmaster advises.—Owing to the serious nature of the influenza epidemic, telegraph traffic for Auckland and district is suffering severe delay and only telegrams of an urgent nature should he lodged. The news of the acceptance of the Allied terms for an armistice came to hand at noon. The firobells rang out a joy peal at 2.15 and again at 4.30. a public meeting then following in the Town Hall. Flags were flown, and most business places closed their premises for the day. A striking feature of the Literary Club’s Sale will he the “Produce Stall which under the able management of Mrs G. J. Roberts should prove a great ntraction. Those desirous of marking their appreciation of all our brave hoys have done in helping to bring about the recent glorious victories, could do so in no better way than in helping with their gifts and patronage. This effort which is being made to help those who are still fighting. The Mayor, (Mr Perry), received the following from the Rt. Hon. the Premier on Saturday:—“Have to thank you for your telegram of this morning transmitting resolution passed enthusiastically by meeting of Hokitika citizens yesterday. The splendid news which I was able to selitl von in connection with Turkey’s surrender now brings appreciably nearer the successful end which we have earnestly hoped for. Tho views of New Zealand regarding German colonies on the Pacific have been strongly represented and I earnestly trust wil not he departed from.”
