Maribyruong Plate—Gamblers’ Gold 1, Millieme 2, Artilleryman 3. A close finish. Time 2.23. Hotham Handicap—Court Jester 1, Nightwatch 2, Lingle 3. Won by half a length. Time 2.344. V.R.C. DERBY. EUSEBIUS (H. Franklin) 1 OUTLOOK (Lavis) 2 FINMARK (MeLachlan) 3 Finmark made his effort too late. The time for the race was the slowest since 1885. Melbourne Stakes—Magpie 1, Desert, Gold 2, Wolaroi 3. Desert Gold led most of the way, but- was beaten by a neck. Time 2.43, Bracken rode Desert Gold. The time is a new Flcm-ingt-on record. Cobra- Stakes —Fitness 1, Queen 'Comedy 2, Princess Lucy 3. Time 1.89 J. BRISBANE DERBY. BRISBANE, Nov. 3. The Derby here yesterday resulted — By ( <- T.ad 1, Woorawa 2, Mable Svee 3. RACE CRITICS. SYDNEY, This Day. Sporting critics'consider the Victorian Derby a muddling affair, and nothing like- a blue riband test, and inferthat Finmark was. beaten bccauso the race resolved itself into a five furlong sprint, preceded by a canter. Finmark s connections are blamed for scratching the pacemaker Kilowen, which cost the race to Finmark. Although Magpie was not all out in defeating Desert Gold hv a neck, writers applaud the mare’s gameness after setting a terrific pace. C.J.C. MEETING. SOCKBURN, This Day.
