ADVANCE OF 15 MILES
MOSUL SOON TO FALL. LONDON October 28. Wo have advanced fifteen miles from Aleppo in pursuit of the enemy. Details show that when the British came in sight of the town, General von Sanders, with ten thousand, retired to Katina ,at the junction of the main road from Alexamlretta and Ada-' ua leading to Constantinople. A rearguard of two thousand put up a slight resistance, hut before retiring burned the station and destroyed most of therolling stock and railway bridges. There are unconfirmed reports thatvon Sanders has been recalled . The Turkish resistance in Mesopotamia is so poor that we could take Mosul at- any time, but for extremely bad communications necessitating extensive supply preparation before a really big move. The enemy’s field strength is only about eight- thousand. A Mesopotamia official message reports the Turks on Saturday held a strong position on the Jehelamri westward of the mouth of the Lesser Zab. Armoured cars attacked their lilies of communication from the west, while cavalry threatened those from the east Frontal pressure, combined with these attacks, compelled the Turks to retreattwelve miles. We are now in close contact with them. We captured Kirkuk on Friday.
