There is also great distress ~m the country districts due to an overuse of quinine and aspiren, taking a toil of the Dutch population. The mili-_ tar.v are rendering energetic assistance to the civil population. At Robert’s Heights, cantonments there are 1800 eases, but the value of discipline and organisation is strictly demonstrated by the low death rate, compared with civilians. A Johannesburg message states during the last twelve days a thousand death occurred, whereof 400 were whites. Bloemfontein' deaths roll is over a thousand, whereof one hundred are whites. The epidemic is making strides in native territories where the mortality is said to be serious.
