(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRTGHT.J .1-5000 LIBEL CLAIM. AGAINST Dll. THACKER. WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. A writ for £SOOO damnges for alleged libel, as been issued on behalf of Lieut. Grierson, a' returned member of the Expeditionary Force, against Dr. Thacker, M.P. H EMIT ANO I ENQUIR Y. STRUCK UN-CHARTERED ROCK. WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. The wreck of the Ilimitangi at the Chathams on July 29th, was inquired into by tho Nautical Court today. The finding was to the effect that the. vessel struck an unchartered reef, on to which she was carried by a strong set towards land. The captain was not blamed and bis certificate was returned and no order made as to costs.
FOOTBALL DECISION. WELLINGTON, This Day. The local Rugby Union applied to the New Zealand Union for permission to play Auckland under modified rules, which were used at the latter place and formed the subject of a discussion at last meeting of the New Zealand union. The latter lias replied that it has nooption hut to adhere strictly to tho constitution and cannot agree to the request. It is pointed out that one of tho suggested modifications was expressly rejected by the delegates to the New Zealand Union last year .
