Mr Gonipcrs, the American Labour leader has arrived in London with other American Labourites and will attend the British Trade Union Congress and Allied Labour Conference either in London or Paris, about the 18th September. The purpose of Air Gompers’ visit is to more closely unite, the workers of Allied countries to win the war. AMERICAN REVENUE BILL. NEW YORK, August 28. The New York “World’s” Washington correspondent loams that the new War Revenue Bill will be the largest in the history of the world. It will raise eight billions dollars.

The officials expect tour thousand to strike immediately. A SUDDEN DEVELOPMENT. (Received this day at 12.30 a.mA LONDON, August 30. Apparently the police strike is fairly general in London. It developed suddenly at midnight.
WOMEN’S BUS WORKERS. ADVANCE OF 25/- WEEKLY. (Received this day nt 12.30 a.m.} LONDON, August. 30. The Press Bureau states the Committee on production have awarded the women tramway and omnibus workers an advance of 25/- weekly, over pre-war rates, thus equalising their rates with the male workers. Government have appointed a committee to investigate the report on relations between wages of women and men. 61 MILITARY MEDALS FOR N.Z. (Received This Day. at 12.10. a.m ’ LONDON, August 29. Military medals have been awarded sixty-one New Zealanders.
TO SAVE PETROL. (Received This Dnv at 1.20 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 29. The full Administration Board has asked all motor car owners not to use cars on Sunday, in order to save petrol for war purposes. It is estimated that on a single Sunday, approximately seven millions gallons will be saved. Compulsory rationing of petrol is not considered necessary at present.
SHIPBUILDING RECORD. LONDON, Aug. 29. Messrs Harland and Wolff made a world’s record in completing a ship five days after launching. Tho mft-ch-inery was put in on the 22nd day. APPEAL TO WOMEN. f AUSTRALIAN Jb N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION; AMSTERDAM, Aug. 29. The German press are appealing for many more women to engage in military v.-ork and release men for tho front. It appears hitherto, that fewer than 15,000 women wore recruited.
GERMAN KNAVERY. (Reuter’s Telegram.) LONDON, Aug. 29. A neutral eye-witness gives the following instance of German knavery. British airmen bombed and partly destroyed a German military train, killing anil wounding many soldiers, but before any attempt was made to succour the wounded, a number of men began painting red crosses on the carriages, the idea being to pretend that- it was a hospital train. Doubtless photographs are now circulating in Germany and neutral countries. CAPTURED PACIFIC ISLANDS. LONDON, August 29. The Australian section of the London Chamber of Commerce unanimously resolved that Australia’s interests in the captured Pacific Islands, should on no conditions, again he permitted to become German possesions.
