THE SOLDIERS VOTES. MELBOURNE December 26. It is understood that the first batch of soldiers votes representing seventy thousand is substantially in favour of the Government proposals. The figures are no], available; hut one Minister forecasts the final “No” majority at about 100,000. FIRST SOLDIERS VOTE. (Received this day at 1.20 a.m.,) SYDNEY, Dec. 26. Contrary to expectation, the first batch of soldiers votes reveal a majority against conscription being “yes” 17,535, “no” 23,760; thus increasing “no” lead to 180,453.
“NO” MAJORITY NOW 147,797. SYDNEY, December 25. With practically all the votes exhausted the “No’ ’majority stands at 174,797. New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia continue to contribute largely to the “No’’ votes. / Victoria has slightly reduced its majority against t and West Australia has substantially increased its “Yes” figures.
Tasmania still shows a slight lead in favour of “Yes.”
