If the Unionist Party was broken up in tltis connection, ay it would be what position would tho "Liberals of the future find themselves in?

The Government has decided to prohibit. the importation of liquor and later to suppress the manufacture domestically of liquor, tho ultimate object being the enforcing of prohibition throughout the Dominion. Seven-eighths of the country is already under Provincial Prohibition Laws. THE HERO OF LIEGE. BERNE, Dec. 21. General Leman, The 'defender of Liege, who was captured by the Germans in August, 1914, has been released and has arrived in Switzerland, where he has been interned.

One raider was forced to descend near the coast, and the crew of three captured alive. A second attack developed at 9.30. Officials have discovered a most exten sive system whereby letters were written in invisible ink, in code, ana carried by neutral sailors to Scandinavia and thence to Germany. It i s snspecte that the codes were used -in twenty per cent, of the letters going to Scandinavia'. Many were concealed in clothing. Arrests are expected.
A BRITISH INVENTION. ANTI-SUBMARINE GUN. (Received This Dav at 10.15. ■* m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 23rd. It is reported here that- the British are using a gun capable oi hurling “depth” bombs, a mile. The bombs are effective if they strike within fifty yards of a periscope, because the explosion produces a tremendous concwss^rn.
