His fine constitution 'is standing him „in good stead, and if the bullet is not embedded in the spine there are hopes of Iris pulling through. MR. JAMES'S -CONDITION.

Air. James although fighting' against taking to bed, has eventually had to do so, tlio shock he sustained making itself more apparent on Saturday. All will hope for his speedy recovery. JOHN ' COULTHARD’S FUNERAL. John Coulthard,, the beloved and only son of Mrs Coulthard, of Runaugn, and the victim of the cruel murder perpetrated on the Seven-Mile road on Friday last, was laid to rest in the Greymouth cemetery yesterday.

A special train of 12 carriages left Runanga at 2 p.m. packed to their extremity with sympathisers of the d-eclpased. To 'supplement this large concourse of people Creymouth residents wore waiting at the. cemetery gatos in great nurnbors and never before in the history of the town and dm trict had such a crowd assembled in (he Greymouth cemetery. Archdeacon York conducted the impressive ceremony at the graveside.
