POSTAL CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, Aug. 20

The Post and Telegraph Conference to-day passed a resolution suggestinga. scale of bonuses to meet the special distress, owing to tho depreciated purchasing power of the sovereign, and also suggesting payment of war bonus to temporary post-mistresses dovoting their full time "to the duties, and urging Government to grant half pay to officers who left on active service, and had "been transferred to socialist duties. Tho Conference decided to protest against the reducing of the travelling allowances, and also against tho Department’s action .in demanding a refund of the 1916 war bonus from officers who had afterwards left on active service. 'the last tribute. rOSTIIUMOUS HONORS. O‘AMARU, Aug. 3.0 . Tho Governor-General paid a brief visit to-day to present awards made to Oamaru soldiers for bravery at tho | front. There was a good turn-out. of Territorials and a big gathering of the public. All the rcciipcnts being dead, there was no outburst of enthusiasm.

Presentations were' made to the next of kin as follows. — - Sergt. Donald Forrester Brown, Victoria Cross, to Robert Brown, father. Lieut. Edward H. Kibblewhate, Military Cross, to Mr. Kibble white, wife. Privato Alexander Kennedy, Russian Order of St. George, to D. Ken-, nedy, father. THE LIBERAL PARTY. WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. A full meeting of the Liberal Party was held this morning when all mem-

bers in Wellington were present. ) Sir J. Carroll, Messrs Glover and Ell, ! who were absent, were accounted for. 1 Sir John Findlay was welcomed as a member of the Party. A general disoussion took placo .on matters of interest to the Party and the following resolution was unanimously passed.—'“That this meeting of members of tho Liberal Party dosiro to pledge their continued confidence in, and loyalty to their leader, Sir Joseph Ward, and wish to leave tho settlement of all matters affecting teh Party to him. ~ '
