POSTAL ENQUIRY.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. 1
THE COMMISSION CLOSED. j AUCKLAND, Aug 23 | Mr. Ostler said while he admitted that the Solicitor-General was not influenced by th'c Roman Catholic Church he had directed an illegal act in tho interests of that Church. Tho pamphlet -which he censored, was not directly connected with the conduct of the war, and interference with such political literature was nil unjustifiable encroachment on the rights of free speech. Tho pamphlet related only to tho origin of the war, not to the war itself. The defence that it might load, to the prejudice of recruiting was obviously a reason elaborated after it was known that a public inquiry was to bo held. Moreover, when the censorship of Box 912 was directed, it was clear that tho voluntary recruiting had broken down and Military Service Act had been law for four and a-lialf months. After Mr. Ostler’s address, the Commission was declared closed.
