BLOCKED DRAIN.
(To tie Editor.) Sir, —It xa a pity wo did not all ba more thoughtful for the public weal and see if there is not soraafhicg we leava undone that requites attention. 1 know of one S6t of business psop'e in this town that to my mind are the essence of goodness and yet there ia a matter that concerns them and the public interests that they have neglected for several months. The Btrough has provided an exoillent concrete water table right along their premises. Tins water table has been blocked by themselves with gravel for a long period and during the recent wet weather was a nuisance. Were it my properly the gravel would not have remained in the drain one day. lam inclined to think that jtbe Borough Overseer or Inspector of Nuinances should always keep an eye on each things and apeak to any person neglecting to remove obstacles in ihe public road*, drains or paths. If this were done >n a kind manner, 1 believe causa for complaint would be removed.
At the sam9 time 1 do not cast all the blame ou the authority. What I imply is that each citizen should do the best possible by precept and example tn show that we as a wholG desire to further tbe interests of our town. I am etc., A Citizen. Hokitika, April 19. b, 1917,
