A LOYAL RESOLUTION.

Unanimously Adopted

Before tbe large and representative gathering at the Town Hall yesterday afternoon in connection with national efficiency work separated, attention was drawn to the ultimatum sent to the Government on behalf of the United Federation of Libor. The matter was at once taken np by the meeting v/ith close interest. Mr Bruce said that a suggestion had emanated from Hastings that mass meetings should bo bold to offer tbe Government all possible support in this time of stress. Tbe present was not a mass mooting, but it was a very representative ooe of the whole district, and ha was of opinion there should be an expression of opinion in a public way in respect to the telegram sent to Sir James Allen by the National Secretary of the Federation of Labor. (Applause.) He therefore moved that a telegram be sent to the Acting Prime Minister to the effect that Westland would stand behind the Government in any action necessary to see the Military Service Act carried out as it should be. Speaking with feeling, Idr Bruce said the wisdom of the country expressed through Parliament had passed the Military Set vice Act, and the country wished that Act to ba enforced. He said let the Government know tbe people are behind them and that they wanted the Act carried out.” (Load applause.) Mr H. Norman, County Chairman, seconded the motion, expressing the opinion that a resolution of the nature suggested would have good effect in showing to the country the true patriotic feeling of the people of Westland, The motion was put and oarried with prolonged applause, and the audience rose and sang a versa of the National Anthem, Later in ths day Mr Norman had the report of (he proceedings telegraphed to Sir James Allen, Acting Premier,
