Buller Mines Working.

WESTPORT, April 4. The Mines in this district are working as usual. Forgery Charges WELLINGTON, April 4. In the Magistrate’s Court Thos. Sils by pleaded guilty to a charge of forgery of a voucher for payment of a voucher of LSI 14s 9d on account of the Mental Hospitals Department to J. Thompson. Silsby pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence. The Chief Detective Boddom said the accused had over £2,200 on him when arrested and that the modus operand! was to put among genuine vouchers, certain forged documents made out in favour of J. Thompson, who was identical with accused. The fraud was l discovered owing to an inaccuracy in the addition of items of one voiicher which was referred hack to Porirua and declared a forgery. The total defalcations are £2,872,- of which all but £391 had been recovered.
