Parliament had power to pass the Act but even if it was ultra vires the appeal could not succeed as the Regulations were not made under the Statute. As to the right of trial by jury the Regulations in the Act expressly provided for summary proceedings He held that all the utterances complained of were seditious and in his opinion nono of the points raised were good. The rest of the Bench concurred.
COAL IWiNES’ 1 ROUBLE. No Work. GRIEYMOUTH, April 4. It is reported that the State mmeis at their meeting this morning decided not to return to work at Blackball or Paparoa.
It was also decided to down roots and liiot to work to-morrow at these mines. From what can be learned the indications point, to tlio strike becoming general and likely to continue. One authority states that what the State mines decide ultimately, Blackball and Paparoa will follow. A loading member of the union has left for Westport.
