THE 26ths FAREWELLED.

Send-ofF at Town HallTbe Town Hall was crowded to overflowing Inst evening when a pnblio farewell organised by the Overseas Olnb was given to members of tbe 26th Reinforcements who leave to-day for Greymontb, en route to camp. The President of the Overseas Club (Mr D. J. Evans) presided, and the gathering was a particularly happy one. The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Surgeon-Major Teichelmann, Ray Father Quinn, Rev H. Howe, Mr W. E Williams and Mr D. J. Evans were ihe speakers of the evening. The addresses were forcible and lamest and were attentively o and warmly applauded, the speakers oucbing on various details thit found ,n echoing response from the audience, he good wishes for the departing men nd H safe return bemg spacially approved of. 1 la the course of his sprech, Mr Wi liams referred to tbe loss sustained by the death of Hon R. McNab. He | J also complimented the Overseas Club and orchestra on its efforts and asked for the support of the community to such a worthy movement. Proceedings were opened by the newly formed Overseas orchestra, their numbers being very enjoyable, while the soloists for the evening, Miss Jessie DavidsoD, Miss Edna Perry, Miss Stapleton and Mr Whyte proved to be in excellent voice and met with well deserved recognition at the hinds of the pleased assemblage. An instrumental quartette was also a decided treat. The accompanists for the evening were Misses E.leeD Daly, G : ese and Daviee, The National Anthem, with cheers for the departing soldiers and the orchestra concluded a very successful function. Subsequently the departing soldiers and their friends were entertained by the Overseas 0 ub at supper at their rooms, a very pleasant hour bemg spent before the gathering dispersed.
